IMPORTANT DETAILS FOR WEEK 3
DUE SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 AT 1:00
· READ: Chapter 6 (“Traditional . . .” pp. 122-145); and Chapter 10 (“Reading Aloud” pp. 256-273)
· POST: Your favorite beautifully illustrated folk tales and at least one folktalke/traditional literature for your thematic plan
DUE SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18 AT 1:00 (items listed are from the Day 3 blog only-you will need to consult the syllabus as well)
· Have your blog up and ready for review
o Design your blog to your liking
o Have your theme clearly defined and articulated on your blog.
o Explain to the readers of your blog how your theme addresses an important current or historical movement that has social implications. Why do you feel that your theme has substance so that your learners come out of the unit having a deep understanding of background issues, and the effects of humans upon the physical and/or social environment? In other words, how does your theme address social effects/consequences such as legal, environmental, socio-economic, political, cultural, lifestyle etc.
o Tell us the three grade levels (e.g., K-2, 4-6, 9-12, or any other combination between k-12), your theme will address. Please make sure that when choosing texts to keep in mind there will be multiple levels of development in reading including troubled readers, ELL students, developmentally delayed students etc. In other words, if you are teaching seventh grade English, focus mainly on the middle school grades, but include literature to challenge mature readers.
o Make sure that you have read your “STUDENT TREASURES Publishing Kit” carefully. Don’t write on them yet.
o This week create a rough outline of your story and a rough draft of the first page of text and post it on D2L-Discussion- rough outline/draft
o Tell us how you plan to illustrate your story (post in same D2L-discussion as above).
o Read through ideas/outlines/drafts
o Comment on at least three different posts
o Friendly reminder, your completed book will be due: March 3, 2012
